Food adventure!

I went out on a date with my hubby to eat food that we consider different and out of our comfort zone; it was totally worth it!

When I hear Thai food I imagine curry sauce and small portions of different types of food choices like a small buffet. Believe it or not, I never had food with curry sauce before this past weekend. I have always been a big fan of spicy food and chips but I have never tried curry. So I decided to try Thai food along with my husband to see what he also though.

Friday night we went to Lamai thai located on C-18, 9542 Argyle Forest Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32222. When we first stepped in the door, the staff was very friendly and I really liked the simple yet very traditional decor. Their dinner menu prices ranged between $15 and $23 dollars, a little more than what we are used to spending but it was perfect for the amount of food we got and how delicious it was.

I chose the Volcano Shrimp and my husband the Pad woon sen noodles with shrimp. For appetizers we got steamed dumplings that were uniquely wrapped and went so perfect with the soy sauce and the lettuce it came with. My volcano shrimp dinner was so delicious and it was both different and way better than I expected. I chose spiciness of 3 from 1-5, 5 being the most spicy. I loved the presentation of the food and the sauce was so perfect for my taste. I loved the details of how my food was served on a shell plate and how it had a real orchid on the side to enjoy its beauty. My volcano shrimp dinner had delicious large grilled shrimp that were on top of steamed veggies, all soaked on a red sauce that was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. I have never tasted such a delicious mix of sweet and spicy sauce until now. My plate also came with a side of white rice that was cooked to perfection. The attention to the details made my experience there even more favorable. We were served cold water in a tall wine glass and was in my opinion ideal to drink for the food I ate. The portion of the food was great, I came in hungry and left satisfied.

Trying something new was definitely worth it and this Thai restaurant has now become one of our favorite spots to go out on a date and we also love it because we noticed that it is also kid friendly. My husband agrees on how delicious his plate was and he really enjoyed his dinner. We returned the following day for lunch and noticed that their prices were more comfortable and the large meals include a nice warm soup as a starter at no extra charge. I ate the Gang garee curry dish, meat combo and loved it! I tried yellow curry for the first time and I like how it had a nice unique kick of spice that I really enjoyed.

We now love Thai food! It was a great weekend for food adventure. We feel like we got a small taste of Thailand at its finest and it felt really authentic. We can’t wait to go back and try something new from their menu!
